Since beginning operations in December 2018, APR is committed to the responsible, clean manufacturing of viscose staple fibre. A year on, our wastewater and air emissions parameters and performance rate better than the legal limits set out by the Indonesian Government, and we are on a pathway of continuous improvement to make sure we meet the highest industry standards globally.

To achieve this objective, we will publish a new roadmap in the first quarter next year to ensure we are fully compliant with what is recognised as the best global benchmark, EU BAT (European Union’s Best Available Technology). While our overall performance against the more robust EU’s BAT standards today is commendable, we have to implement improvement measures particularly in relation to total Sulphur to air emissions and hazardous waste. We will continue working hard to improve each aspect to ensure we operate in the top quartile of the industry or above.

Improving on industry standards as well as excelling at the highest international standards are important. A key focus of our roadmap is to maximize input chemical recovery throughout our manufacturing process as we work towards close-loop production of viscose fibre. We are also a contributing member of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) foundation and are participating in the development of the man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF) industry specific standard for wastewater management.
