Kids in Indonesia are keen to get back to school after a year of disrupted learning in 2020, and Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) was on hand to help with the gift of uniforms to pupils at two schools near our operational location.

Making the return to school easier

A total of 1,367 school uniforms were distributed to the students of SDN 013 and SDN 009 in Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan Regency, Riau province.

The donation is part of APR’s Community Development programme and was handed over to SDN 009 school by representatives from APR and PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP), our co-located dissolving wood pulp spplier.

The school uniforms are quite special since they were made with a blend of viscose and cotton.

Ibu Ellin, a parent of a second grade primary student, is grateful for the uniforms and said it will help to ease the economic burden on her family who have been affected by the pandemic. Usually, she has to pay around Rp1 million to buy her children’s school uniforms.

“The children are growing very rapidly. Last year’s uniforms are now too small and needed to be replaced. This assistance is a tremendous help for us,” she said.

The Principal of SDN 009 Pangkalan Kerinci Hj Elfidawati MPd is very pleased with the donation. We look forward to a stronger collaboration in 2021,” “she said.

Soft and comfortable school uniform

The Head of the Department of Education and Culture of Pelalawan Regency, Mr. Syafrizal conveyed a similar sentiment.

“In Pelalawan District there are limited resources in school and we are grateful to APR and RAPP who continue to collaborate with the community supporting education initiatives in the district,” he said.

Viscose is a soft material that is comfortable and light for students. Stakeholder Relations Manager of RAPP for the Pelalawan region, Mabrur, said the company wanted to introduce students and the community to viscose as a way to understand our business and products.

“The provision of this assistance is a commitment to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal 4 of Quality Education,” he concluded.
