NEWS RELEASE

PANGKALAN KERINCI, RIAU, 14 January 2019 – Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) initiated the commissioning of its viscose rayon plant in December 2018. This brings it another step closer to full-scale commercial production expected in early Q2 2019. The company will in the meantime continue fine-tuning its state-of-the-art machines to achieve high quality production, efficiency and best-in-class chemical recovery.

With an annual production capacity of 240,000 tonnes of viscose fibre, APR supports the development of Indonesia’s textile industry by reducing its dependence on cotton and viscose imports. This is in line with the country’s ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ roadmap which prioritises the development of five manufacturing sectors – textile included – to boost its export and GDP.

APR produces viscose rayon that can be applied to apparel (e.g. innerwear, outerwear, uniform, denim, accessories, lining), home textiles (e.g.  bed linen, towel, upholstery) and technical textiles. Known for its comfort and versatility, APR’s viscose rayon is made from natural wood cellulose sourced from sustainably managed plantations.

APR’s operations are expected to positively impact neighbouring communities through direct and indirect opportunities. Additionally, the company plans to roll out several community development programmes over the next few months to serve the needs of the communities.
