APR Marks One Year of Operations
A year ago, on December 1 2018, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) produced its first viscose bale at its mill in Pangkalan Kerinci in the Riau province in Sumatra, Indonesia.
Since then, APR has built up a strong position as the first fully integrated viscose rayon producer – from plantation to viscose fibre – in Asia.
Over the last 12 months, the company has focused on fine tuning operations at the mill, participating in fashion events and trade shows, collaborating with fashion designers, and working with the Indonesian government to promote viscose rayon and sustainable fashion.
This year, APR also launched its ‘ Everything Indonesia ’ campaign in October to promote local sourcing and production of fashion materials from Indonesia. The aim is to support Indonesia’s resurgence as a global centre for textile manufacturing, starting with viscose rayon as a catalyst for home-grown fashion design and creativity.
“From plantation to fashion, I believe we can mobilize the textile industry in Indonesia. When we say from plantation to fashion, it’s becoming a reality. We’re not just manufacturing viscose staple fiber, we’re actually helping our customers to be more profitable,” said Ben Poon, Deputy Head of APR.
During an anniversary celebration at the company’s production facility in Pangkalan Kerinci which was attended by employees, APR reaffirmed its commitment to continue to grow in line with RGE Group’s 5Cs business philosophy, which states that whatever we do must be ‘good for the Community, good for the Country, good for the Climate, good for Customer, and only then will it be good for the Company’.
APR hosted a gathering of 45 representatives from the Indonesian fashion industry in a roundtable celebrating the journey from sustainable fibre to fashion.
