JAKARTA, 26 October 2023 – Viscose-rayon fiber producer Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) strengthened its commitment to supporting sustainable fashion through a collaborative collection with Indonesian designers that blends simplicity with sustainability at Jakarta Fashion Week 2024 held on Thursday, 26 October 2023.
The event, themed “Revival of Simplicity”, showcased 48 fashion pieces by four labels that used APR viscose-rayon derived from renewable and biodegradable materials in support of sustainable fashion in Indonesia. The four labels were Aruna Creative, Bateeq, Frederika, and Ghea Resort by Amanda Janna.
Each label showcased 12 fashion pieces made from viscose-rayon fiber, making them a perfect choice for comfortable, simple and ready-to-wear outfits. Through the collaboration, the labels also explored the use of viscose-rayon for different types of garments, from modern batik pieces to unique and trendy daily wear and styles that speak of simplicity with a contemporary touch.
APR Head of Marketing Communication Zoey Rasjid said it was APR’s second time participating in Jakarta Fashion Week since the company began operations in 2019, highlighting its commitment to promoting a sustainable textile and fashion industry in Indonesia.
“This year, we pick the theme simplicity that combines elements of sustainability in viscose-rayon as part of our commitment to encouraging everyone to support sustainable fashion in Indonesia,” said Zoey, at the event held at The City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, Jakarta, on October 23-29, 2023.
In this collaboration, Aruna Creative presented the “Wastra on Denim” collection to demonstrate that rayon fibers can be incorporated into denim and combined with traditional batik motifs. In essence, the Batik Truntum motif symbolizes eternal and sincere love.
Meanwhile, Bateeq introduced the Pawon collection that was based on two themes, Gana and Tampa, contemporary motifs that presented an interpretation of Indonesian culture. The collection combined tradition with a modern twist, encouraging the use of batik made from sustainable viscose-rayon fabrics for different occasions.
Following the success of the Sweet Plantation collection in early 2023, FREDERIKA has once again teamed up with APR to launch METAMORFOSA, an exclusive lyocell collection that highlighted the fabric’s softness as well as dynamic everyday wear designed for Indonesia’s tropical climate.
Lastly, Ghea Resort by Amanda Janna, explored the concept of simplicity and spirituality, as well as the traditional philosophy of the Balinese society known as “Tri Hita Kirana” through its collection presented at JFW 2024. The motifs on the viscose-rayon fabrics were inspired by the Balinese Poleng cloth and the motifs of the Gerinsing double ikat cloth, showcasing the richness of the Bali Aga culture.
This year, APR also supported the Lomba Perancang Mode (LPM) 2023 competition that is part of JFW to promote young Indonesian designers and hopefully introduce viscose-rayon fiber that supports sustainable fashion. LPM not only announced the grand champion but also presented the APR Award to the designer who used viscose-rayon fabrics and emphasized authenticity.
“Viscose-rayon gives a soft and cool touch to my collection. It drapes well and really suits my expectations for my work,” said Nurfathiyah, owner of the label Thiya, who won the APR Award for her white vintage dress made from viscose-rayon.
Zoey Rasjid, APR’s Head of Marketing Communication, was one of the judges for LPM 2023, along with Sebastian Gunawan (senior designer), Hian Tjen (designer and LPM 2007 alumnus), Lisa Malonda (Istituto Marangoni representative for Indonesia), and Aldi Indrajaya (Dewi Fashion Editor).
