Jakarta, 19 January 2021 – Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) has been accepted as a United Nations Global (UN) Compact member, joining the global network of over 10,000 companies committed to building a sustainable future by implementing the Ten Universal Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.
Participation in the UN Global Compact is open to companies committed to implementing the UN Global Compact principles across their operations and spheres of influence, and regularly communicating updates on their progress.
“By committing to align our operations and strategies with the universal principles of the UN Global Compact, we are proving that our business can become a powerful force of good,” said Basrie Kamba, Director, Asia Pacific Rayon. “We are accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals across our business operations and among the communities where we operate”
In 2019, APR embarked on an exercise to prioritise the most relevant SDGs to the company’s business, operations, and its involvement in the textile value chain. Other factors considered were Indonesia’s development needs at the national and provincial levels. After the exercise, APR identified three sets of goals:
Core Goals – Most relevant to APR’s business
Catalytic Goals – Where APR can have e a positive, direct and significant exponential impact on surrounding communities
Contributed Goals – Where APR directly or indirectly contributes to the Goals’ achievement
“The SDGs guide us to deliver a positive impact and value for the community, country and climate. We are now involved in mapping the goals and targets to material topics and business activities, incorporating the vision into a roadmap and action plan,” said Mr. Kamba.
As a voluntary initiative, the Global Compact draws strength from members’ commitment and actions to support the universal principles that help the marketplace be more social and economically inclusive.
APR is committed to integrating the global compact principles into its overall business objective, ensuring that they are part of the company’s culture and day-to-day operations. APR plans to seek out collaborative projects that will advance the broader SDG goals.
