NEWS RELEASE

JAKARTA, 1 May 2019 – Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) is a proud sponsor of Muslim Fashion Festival 2019 (MUFFEST), supporting Indonesian fashion designers in the use of viscose-rayon, a renewable and biodegradable material, in their work.

Organised by the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) and held from 1-4 May 2019 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), MUFFEST is a key event in the Indonesian fashion calendar.  APR is collaborating with eight prominent IFC fashion designers to stage an exclusive fashion show themed Future is Naturally Sustainable Fibre. The show presents the designers’ vision of a future where natural fibre is a fixture in sustainable fashion.

“APR’s involvement in MUFFEST supports the idea to make Indonesia the world’s Muslim fashion mecca, in line with the Government’s push for the growth of the textile sector as one of five priority growth sectors in Indonesia.  The demand for raw materials derived from renewable and certified wood sources continues to grow domestically and globally. The Muslim fashion industry demands the same sustainable option too.  This presents an opportunity for APR, the Muslim fashion industry, and the Government,” said Director of APR, Basrie Kamba, at the opening ceremony of MUFFEST 2019 today.

Properties such as breathability, comfort, absorbency and colour brilliance make APR’s viscose-rayon a choice material for Muslim fashion, particularly in the tropics. Viscose-rayon can be used on its own or blended with other materials to produce hijabs that can be used for all occasions.  Apart from the fashion show at MUFFEST, APR is hosting a viscose-rayon fabric styling competition for young designers.

With a total population of 270 million where majority are Muslims, Indonesia is well-positioned to promote the Muslim fashion. APR will continue to support Indonesia’s ambition to strategically develop its textile industry to compete globally.

64 collaborative works by the eight designers will be presented at the fashion show. “Each of the eight designers have their own distinct styles. Audrey’s design is avant-garde while mine is more contemporary. What unifies our designs is the use of viscose-rayon as well as the theme ‘Singularity’ which is the 2019/2020 forecast fashion trend. The concept of singularity has a sub-theme that was applied in this fashion show, namely Exuberent, Neo Medieval, and Cortex.” said IFC Chairman, Ali Charisma,

APR’s collection of viscose-rayon is also featured in MUFFEST’s retail trade exhibition.
